Meteo·Mobile Blog

The Blog for Mobile Aviation Weather for smartphones

Slight redesign

We’ve just redesigned the site a little bit.

Our aim was to have the site show better on mobile devices (like Android, Blackberry, iPhone…)We noticed that ads where keeping the site from showing correctly on some of these mobile phones, because they were horizontal skyscrapers.
So we’ve changed these ads to squares and also increased the fonts a bit because it was hard to click on some links on touch screen mobile phones.
With these small changes, now you can get your METARS and TAFORS and weather charts in a single-column type of display.

As you will have noticed, because we are pilots and not IT people, website looks is not our best asset. Still, we are happy with the amount of pilots that come to our site everyday to get their first impression on what the weather is going to be like at their airport or enroute, making it safer to decide whether to fly or not.

As usual, we encourage you to drop us a comment on how you like it, or dislike it.

Google maps from blackberry

I’ve recently updated the software in my blackberry and found out that they’ve implemented an improvement long wished for.

Now, when you click on a kml link, google maps for mobile opens showing the information contained in that kml file.

What this means to Meteo·Mobile users is that they no longer need to copy the kml link, open google maps, paste the link and wait.
Now, just clicking on the kml link will take care of all of that, automatically opening the google maps application.

Thus, I’ve updated the link and called it ‘mobile map’ instead of ‘kml’

I have not had the chance to check if this behavior is analogous in iPhone or other sort of handhelds, so feedback will be appreciated.

KML use with a Blackberry

The kml link on the previous page is thought to be used with Google Maps for Mobile.
Just copy the URL of that link (“L”+copy in a blackberry, right click + “Copy link” in Windows).
Then, go to your Google Maps for Mobile application, and use “Find Location” or “Find business”.
Then, hit “enter adress” and Paste the link that you just copied. That will show you the google map for the field.

Hope you enjoy it!
