Registered users get rid of advertising

GREAT NEWS!

Starting today, we are conducting a test for an undetermined amount of time: Meteo·Mobile won’t show advertising to registered users. Another good reason to register, isn’t it?

We want to see if advertising is enough of a burden for users to register, this is the main reason for this experiment.
You need to know that we’ve never spammed our registered users. Actually, so far we’ve only used users email to apologize for our mistakes.

There is a little caveat for those pre-registered users. They need to re-register. Actually all they need to do is go to the registration page (where they’ll find their previous registration info) and hit the ‘submit’ button.

We are proud to have an extensive base of loyal users.

One of the things we’ve always tried to avoid is user registration. We ourselves don’t like being forced to register in a page we visit just once in a while.

On the other hand, user registration yields lots of advantages to both the users and the ‘service providers’.

In our case, because we base lots of advantages (like showing your favourite airports up first) on cookies alone, you loose these advantages each time you delete your browsers cookies.

The only way for this not to happen is to have a unique idenifier for each user. Nowadays, the best unique identifier we can think of is a valid email address.

We’ve never spammed those users that trusted us their email address. In fact, I don’t remember the last time I sent an email to all of them. We usually only answer emails.

We have this blog as a means of comunication.

We’d like to ask those intensive users that come visit Meteo·Mobile quite often to Register. Hence, we’ve added a very small message asking for this.

In order to Register, all you need to do is visit Meteo·Mobile Registration Page. You may well end up discovering there are lots of options to choose there that you didn’t know of.

Thank you.

We’ve decided to discontinue advertising on mobile devices (whose user-agent shows midp).

With revenues shrinking more and more, it doesn’t make sense anymore to take your space and bandwidth.

Not that the revenue from the other adds is great, but it does helps pay the costs of hosting. And we have a good, expensive hosting because that’s the only way we pilots can get a fast aviation weather report.

We would really like to hear from you on this whole advertising matter.
We understand that you pilots don’t like seeing advertising (specially on some advanced mobile devices which show even the bigger adds) But I’m sure you do understand that hosting needs to get paid for.

I’d be glad to debate about other options and opinions. Do you have any great ideas? Share them with us!

I’ve always wondered what sort of weather briefings an airliner pilot gets.

The way I’ve always imagined that is:

The flight commander goes to the operations office and gets an envelope with plenty of information that a team of specialized meteorologists have prepared for the flight route.

He then studies all of that for a while and has access to either the meteorologists or a computer to clear any doubts that might arise.

Then, on board the airplane, besides the weather radar and other weather-related equipment, he has access to updated SIGMETs, METARs, PIREPs and the like.

But, is that the way it is?

We’d love to hear from those of you that know the real thing!

I know you guys are busy and I am asking for more than a couple of seconds this time. But please consider writing a comment here so that the rest of us can get a flare of what the real professional weather briefings are all about.
If you have the time to scan that sort of documentation, I will take care to anonimize it and publish it here so that the rest of us can take a look!

Thanks!

I’d like to know who uses Meteo·Mobile.

Why?

First, because we exist because of you.
Also, because we make development decisions based on what we think or users wish. And for this, we use an image of what we think you are.
We used to think you are pilots. BUT we’ve discovered through you feedback that there are plenty of other people using aviador (crew members, virtual pilots, meteorology enthusiasts and teachers, controllers …).

I wish there will be plenty of answers that will help us better develop this tool.

I don’t believe in web polls. But, PLEASE, prove me wrong and answer the poll. It only takes a second.

You’ll find the poll on the right sidebar. Just click on the answer that best describes you. After that, you’ll get the poll results.

Meteo·Mobile wants to play a role in this through making a technology available to all pilots to do so.

The best things in Aviation are:

Flying

The People you get to know

The Places you get to go

At Meteo·Mobile we want to do something so that you, the more experienced aviators can share your knowledge on ” The places you get to go being a pilot ”

Often all we pilots need to get on a plane and get going is an excuse, a place to go. This is precisely our purpose, to give pilots lots of excuses to go flying!

So please go ahead and make happy pilots by sending us cool places:

Restaurants, Bars, Grills, BBQs to go eat

Nice Scenery to go see from the air

Nice airports, airstrips, grass-strips to go land and meet its people

You can do so, by using our Add-a-Cool-Aviation-Place form (very easy to use Googlemaps), by posting a comment to this post or even sending us an e-mail. We’ll do the rest.
